Nikita has been enamoured with the world of wearable art and craft since arriving in Japan in the late nineties and finding herself smack bang in the middle of a street fashion explosion. Inspired by the Harajuku kids wild and theatrical DIY fashion expression, she returned to Sydney to study fashion design, shoe making and jewellery and object design and immerse herself in the world of performance, styling and art + craft.
Now a trained silversmith and jeweller with over ten years industry experience, Nikita has a deep and abiding passion for art and fashion. Doodad and Fandango encapsulates her love for colour and pop art in the medium of fantastic plastic. Inspired by the costume jewellery heyday of the 1930s to 1950s, when metal was scarce and new materials like bakelite and celluloid were being used to create fun and irreverent jewellery.
D+F uses meticulously inlaid pieces of Perspex and laminate, which is hard wearing, and has the look and feel of shiny resin. All of the jewellery is made to order on premises in Sydney. For this reason D+F doesn’t have to go on sale at the end of the season to clear out stock. In this way waste is reduced, and the carbon footprint is nice and tight!
Nikita loves the planet and considers Mother Earth in every step of production. All of our perspex waste is recycled. Our laminates are sourced from local manufacturers. The paper packaging your doodads come in can be recycled. If you live in Australia the plastic post pack that your doodads were delivered in can be dropped off at your local REDCYCLE point for recycling. We hope you wear your doodads for many years to come, if anything does break get in touch it can usually be resurrected and we are happy to fix if possible for a minimal costs, as long as the customer covers postage. Lets keep looking and feeling fabulous and doing the same for our planet!
